A hyperlocal news site committed to in-depth reporting on issues concerning Forest Park, Illinois.

A group of teens allegedly robbed a 68-year-old woman on July 10 around 4:10 p.m. as she went inside her garage in the 800 block of Dunlop Avenue.

The victim told police she parked her car in her garage, but as she exited, she saw a pair of teens who went into the garage right behind her. They reportedly demanded her car key fob, and when the victim initially refused, one of the offenders slapped her across the face several times.

One of the offenders ended up grabbing the key fob while a third offender allegedly entered the car but didn’t take anything.

A neighbor overheard the shouting at the victim and called police. When the officers arrived, the suspects fled the scene through the alley, with one teen running to the Forest Home Cemetery. A total of eight teens were detained.

The suspect who ran into the cemetery was found with a key fob in his pocket, which the victim confirmed was hers. The teen reportedly said, without prompting, that the group “didn’t take anything from her.”

The victim could not identify anyone positively and most of the suspects, all between the ages of 12 and 16, were released, except for the teen with the key fob, who was questioned but later released without being charged after the victim couldn’t positively identify him.

Car stolen from repair shop

A silver 2014 BMW Sedan was stolen from the Forest Park Foreign Car Repair shop, 7400 Harrison St., after it got repaired.

On July 6, the shop put the repaired car out by the service bay doors, with the key fob in the car’s cupholder. At some point between noon. and 1 p.m., an unknown person got into the car and drove off. After the repair shop verified that the car owner didn’t take the car off the lot, they called police.

The car has been reported as stolen. It hadn’t been recovered at the time of the report.

The catalytic converter was stolen from the silver 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander parked in a visitor parking space of a condo building in the 7200 block of Madison Street. The theft occurred on the morning of July 8, at some point between 5:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.

Forest Park police reported that on July 3 around 1:38 a.m., two people ransacked a car parked on the side driveway a home in the 7200 block of Dixon Street. The victim’s Ring door camera captured the incident.

The victim said that she wasn’t sure whether she locked her car, but there was no signs of forced entry. The offenders stole a small amount of currency, a phone charger and five blank checks. The victim said that, as of the morning of July 5, no one attempted to use checks.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, July 4-10, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
